South Korea's Gender Pay Gap Widens With Age

DW World · world

South Korea's gender pay gap is the highest in the OECD, worsening significantly as women age. While women earn 8% less than men at 27, this gap expands to 50% by their late 50s. This disparity stems from caregiving responsibilities pushing women into lower-paid jobs upon returning to work after career breaks. Despite higher university attainment than men, women face limited job opportunities and a glass ceiling, holding only 18% of manager positions in 2024.
