Dhanbad Potters Race Against Time As Unseasonal Rain Disrupts Diya Production

Times of India · india

Potters in Dhanbad are facing significant challenges in producing earthen lamps, clay toys, and utensils for the upcoming Diwali markets due to unseasonal rainfall. Spells of rain, influenced by cyclone Arnab and western disturbances, have disrupted the drying and painting processes, damaging finished products and threatening the artisans' incomes. Families involved in pottery for generations rely on this four-month preparation period, and delays could lead to financial difficulties throughout the year. Potters are now hoping for clear skies in the coming days to salvage their production and sales.
