Australia's Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, Pat Conroy, stated that the nation has made progress in its "permanent contest" with China for influence in the Pacific region. Since 2022, the Australian government has focused on foreign and defense policies to counter Beijing's growing sway, rebooting ties with China while strengthening relationships with Pacific island nations. Conroy highlighted recent treaties with Tuvalu, Nauru, Fiji, PNG, and Vanuatu as key achievements. He emphasized that Australia must continue delivering on its commitments to remain the partner of choice in the region.
