The Indian government has advised major social media platforms to identify and act quickly on unlawful content related to protests. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued an advisory on October 8, expressing concern over false, misleading, or manipulated information circulating online. Platforms are urged to prioritize action based on complaints from authorized government bodies, as such content can disturb public order and incite violence. MeitY also stressed the need for timely cooperation with law enforcement agencies and to label synthetically generated content depicting ongoing events.
