Critical PHP Flaw Forces Global Websites Offline; Wikipedia, Governments Affected

Times of India · technology

Two critical security flaws, nicknamed PHP2Shell, have led to widespread website outages globally. These flaws, present in PHP software for over a decade and discovered with AI, allow hackers to take control of websites without passwords. Governments in the Netherlands, Finland, France, and Denmark, along with institutions like Wikipedia, hospitals, and school portals, intentionally took their sites offline as a precaution. Cybersecurity agencies are urging immediate updates or offline status until fixes are applied. The vulnerabilities highlight the pervasive nature of PHP, which powers approximately 70% of the world's websites.
