India Bars Sugar Ethanol In 2026-27 Tender, Cuts Maize Incentive
The Hindu · india
India has barred ethanol derived from sugarcane juice, sugar syrup, and B-heavy molasses in its latest procurement tender for the 2026-27 supply year. This move aims to protect domestic sugar supplies while continuing the ethanol-blended petrol program. The tender, issued by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited on behalf of oil marketing companies, seeks approximately 11 billion litres of ethanol. Additionally, the incentive for maize-based ethanol has been reduced, lowering its procurement price. This shift in feedstock sourcing comes amid concerns over domestic sugar availability and rising prices due to poor rainfall.
