His wife, Gitanjali, stated that no treatment should be administered without their consent. Wangchuk began his fast on March 6, aiming to pressure the government to grant constitutional rights to Ladakh and protect its fragile ecosystem from industrial exploitation.

लद्दाख में एक्टिविस्ट सोनम वांगचुक की तबीयत बिगड़ने पर उन्हें अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया है। वे 'क्लाइमेट फास्ट' पर थे। उनकी पत्नी गीतांजलि ने कहा कि उनकी सहमति के बिना कोई इलाज न किया जाए। सोनम वांगचुक 6 मार्च से अनशन पर थे। वे चाहते हैं कि लद्दाख को संवैधानिक अधिकार मिलें और इसके नाजुक पर्यावरण को औद्योगिक शोषण से बचाया जाए।
