Johns Hopkins Students Develop Sweat-Based Kidney Health Monitor

Times of India · health

Three Johns Hopkins University students have created SweatSense, a wearable device that monitors kidney health indicators through sweat. This non-invasive technology aims to offer a more convenient alternative to traditional blood and urine tests, particularly for older adults and those at risk of chronic kidney disease. The prototype uses a chemical reaction and colour sensor to estimate urea levels in sweat, displaying results on a digital dashboard. While it has won a university design award, the device is still under development and requires further assessment against standard clinical tests.
