Mississippi Woman Retains Sole Ownership of $1.2 Million Farm After Divorce

A Mississippi woman has successfully retained sole ownership of a 432-acre farm, valued at approximately $1.2 million, following her divorce. The Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's decision, ruling that the farm, purchased by the woman a decade before her marriage, remained her separate property. Although the farm was used as security for a loan that helped finance their marital home, the court found insufficient evidence to convert it into a marital asset. The ruling also confirmed her ownership of additional land required for the home's septic system.
