Mohali Garbage Fire Continues For 12 Days, Disrupting Businesses and Health
Hindustan Times · environment
A fire at the Shahi Majra garbage dumping site in Mohali, which began on October 1, continues to smoulder, spreading smoke and causing significant disruption. Shopkeepers and residents report difficulty being near the site, with smoke reaching residential areas and impacting nearby markets. Despite efforts by 12 fire tenders, the blaze persists due to internal heat generation within the waste. The fire has forced the cancellation of weekly markets, leading to financial losses for vendors and raising concerns about potential chronic health issues for those exposed to the smoke.
