Yavatmal Leads Maharashtra in Women Farmer Registrations Amidst Drought Concerns

Despite being known for agrarian distress and farmer suicides, Yavatmal district has registered the highest number of women farmers in Maharashtra. Over 1.52 lakh women from Yavatmal have applied for official 'mahila shetkari' status, out of the state's total of 14.39 lakh applicants. Officials state these women are self-made and involved in agriculture or allied activities, not solely widows. The registration drive aims to extend government schemes, like the Gopinath Munde accident insurance, to these women. Amravati and Gadchiroli also show significant numbers of registered women farmers.

कृषि संकट और किसानों की आत्महत्याओं के लिए जाने जाने वाले यवतमाल जिले ने महाराष्ट्र में महिला किसानों की सबसे ज़्यादा संख्या दर्ज की है। राज्य के कुल 14.39 लाख आवेदकों में से यवतमाल की 1.52 लाख से ज़्यादा महिलाओं ने 'महिला शेतकरी' का आधिकारिक दर्जा पाने के लिए आवेदन किया है। अधिकारियों का कहना है कि ये महिलाएं आत्मनिर्भर हैं और केवल विधवाएं नहीं, बल्कि कृषि या संबंधित गतिविधियों में शामिल हैं। पंजीकरण अभियान का उद्देश्य इन महिलाओं तक सरकारी योजनाओं, जैसे गोपीनाथ मुंडे दुर्घटना बीमा, का लाभ पहुंचाना है। अमरावती और गढ़चिरौली में भी पंजीकृत महिला किसानों की संख्या काफी ज़्यादा है।
