Anirudh Thapa achieved a significant milestone by scoring a goal against two-time World Cup champions Uruguay, marking the end of India's 44-year drought for a goal against the South American team. This rebound goal made Thapa only the second Indian player to score against Uruguay, following Manas Bhattacharya's goal in 1982. For Thapa personally, this was his first international goal since 2023. The match itself resulted in a 6-1 defeat for India.
