A healthy tiger, estimated to be 4 to 5 years old, was fatally struck by the Palakkad – Thoothukudi Palaruvi Express on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the Shencottai – Ariyankavu ghat section, near Poolankudiyiruppu. Forest officials found the tiger's carcass on the tracks with severe head injuries, indicating a high-velocity impact. The on-the-spot autopsy confirmed the cause of death, and the carcass was incinerated.
