Dollar Retreats From 18-Month High Despite Hot CPI Data

The US dollar eased from an 18-month peak on Thursday, despite inflation data exceeding expectations. Federal Reserve officials' cautious remarks and a dip in Treasury yields led traders to reduce bets on an October rate hike. The euro and sterling strengthened against the dollar, while the dollar index saw a slight decline. Core CPI rose 0.3% in September, with annual inflation at 2.6%, both above forecasts. Market pricing for an October Fed rate hike initially surged but was later pared back.
