Zimbabweans returning from South Africa are struggling to rebuild their livelihoods after fleeing anti-immigrant hostility and violence. Over 116,000 Zimbabweans returned by July 28, with many facing the same economic difficulties that prompted their initial departure. While the Zimbabwean government is screening returnees for skills and considering reintegration programs, many lack jobs and adequate social support systems. Some returnees had not invested in property back home, leaving them with few resources.
