Delhi High Court Dismisses Pleas for SIT Probe Into 2020 Riots and Jamia Violence

The Delhi High Court has dismissed a batch of petitions seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots and the 2019 violence at Jamia Millia Islamia. The court stated that for the reasons mentioned in the judgment, all petitions are dismissed. The petitions had sought directions for an independent SIT, inquiry commission, compensation, and FIRs against police officers. The 2020 riots resulted in at least 53 deaths and around 700 injuries, while the Jamia violence followed anti-CAA protests.

दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट ने 2020 के पूर्वोत्तर दिल्ली दंगों और 2019 में जामिया मिलिया इस्लामिया में हुई हिंसा की विशेष जांच दल (SIT) से जांच कराने की मांग वाली याचिकाओं के एक समूह को खारिज कर दिया है। अदालत ने कहा कि निर्णय में बताए गए कारणों से सभी याचिकाएं खारिज की जाती हैं। याचिकाओं में एक स्वतंत्र एसआईटी, जांच आयोग, मुआवजा और पुलिस अधिकारियों के खिलाफ एफआईआर का निर्देश देने की मांग की गई थी। 2020 के दंगों में कम से कम 53 लोगों की मौत हुई थी और लगभग 700 लोग घायल हुए थे, जबकि जामिया हिंसा नागरिकता संशोधन अधिनियम (CAA) विरोधी प्रदर्शनों के बाद हुई थी।
