Azam Khan Arrested Minutes After Jail Release in Money Laundering Case

Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday, shortly after his release from Rampur jail. He had spent nearly 11 months in custody. The arrest is in connection with a 2019 money laundering case. Khan, who was released on bail in a separate case, emotionally stated his arrest was the "punishment for being a Muslim" and for building a university. His son, Abdullah Azam, was also released but went home.

समाजवादी पार्टी के नेता आजम खान को शनिवार को रामपुर जेल से रिहा होने के कुछ ही देर बाद प्रवर्तन निदेशालय (ED) ने गिरफ्तार कर लिया। वह लगभग 11 महीने से हिरासत में थे। यह गिरफ्तारी 2019 के मनी लॉन्ड्रिंग मामले से जुड़ी है। खान, जिन्हें एक अलग मामले में जमानत मिली थी, ने भावुक होकर कहा कि उनकी गिरफ्तारी 'मुसलमान होने' और एक विश्वविद्यालय बनाने की 'सजा' है। उनके बेटे अब्दुल्ला आजम को भी रिहा कर दिया गया था लेकिन वह घर चले गए।
