ASCI Releases Guidelines for Labelling Synthetically Generated Content in Ads
Business Standard · business
The Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI) has issued new guidelines for the responsible labelling of synthetically generated content (SGC) in advertisements. These guidelines, which come into effect three months after publication, specify when advertisers must disclose the use of SGC. SGC is defined as artificially created or modified audio, visual, or audio-visual material designed to appear real. Disclosure is mandatory when SGC materially influences consumer decisions and its absence could mislead. Certain uses of SGC, such as fabricating endorsements or using deepfakes without consent, remain prohibited.
