Japan created Olympic medals for the 2020 Tokyo Games using recycled electronic devices. Between 2017 and 2019, a campaign collected approximately 6.21 crore mobile phones and 79,000 other small electronics. These devices were processed to extract metals like gold, silver, and bronze. The recovered metals were then used to manufacture around 5,000 medals for the Olympics and Paralympics. This initiative demonstrated innovative recycling, transforming waste into symbols of international sporting achievement.
