Business Standard · business

Non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) have seen a moderate rise in their reliance on bank borrowings, according to a Reserve Bank of India (RBI) report. This trend follows the restoration of risk weights on bank lending to NBFCs and a softening in lending rates. NBFCs' total borrowings from banks and markets accounted for 77.2 per cent of their funding by end-December 2025. The report also highlighted that NBFC credit growth has been high, driven by retail and industry sectors, with gold loans showing significant expansion.
