FIFA has fined the Spanish football federation $20,000 and ordered the partial closure of its stadium for a friendly match. The sanctions stem from Islamophobic chants by some Spain fans during a World Cup warm-up game against Egypt in March. Supporters chanted "Who doesn't jump is a Muslim" twice at the RCDE Stadium near Barcelona. FIFA rejected the RFEF's argument that the chant was not discriminatory. The governing body stated that a term can be discriminatory when used in context as an insult or marker of inferiority.
