A severe dry landslide in Nepal's Gorkha district blocked the Budhi Gandaki and Siar Khola rivers, forming a natural lake. The subsequent bursting of this lake unleashed a flash flood, causing significant destruction in Payu and Bagar. Over 35 houses, a school, and three crucial bridges were washed away, severing the connection to the popular Manaslu Circuit. While this is a new blow to Nepal, which is still recovering from a past tragedy, timely evacuation to higher ground by villagers averted major loss of life.
