Former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet has withdrawn her candidacy for UN Secretary-General. The 74-year-old announced her decision on Saturday, stating the time was not right for her bid. Her withdrawal follows a recent UN Security Council straw poll where she received only one encouraging vote. This leaves candidates like Rebeca Grynspan and Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett in contention to succeed Antonio Guterres, whose term ends December 31.
