Times of India · business

Kolkata's bars and restaurants experienced a significant increase in customer numbers over the weekend, driven by the combined effect of Durga Puja shopping crowds and a football match. Many establishments reported a 25% jump in footfall, with projections suggesting a further 5-10% rise in the coming weeks compared to pre-Puja periods. Hotel and Restaurants’ Association of Eastern India president Sudesh Poddar noted that improved weather and a longer build-up to the festival are contributing factors. Restaurants are preparing for larger crowds by increasing staff and making additional arrangements.
