The Maharashtra Congress has accused the police of detaining tribal students who were traveling to Mumbai to protest at Azad Maidan. The students were demanding the resignation of the tribal development minister over issues including scholarships and hostel facilities. The party stated that police stopped students early on October 5, 2026, took their photographs, and detained them. Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal further alleged police attempted to forcibly enter the party's office to detain students who had marched to Mumbai. The Congress condemned the action, calling it suppression of democratic values.
