While the concept posits that consumers cut big-ticket purchases but still buy affordable indulgences like cosmetics, India's beauty market presents a different picture. A survey indicated over half of respondents had not bought lipstick as a treat during tough financial times. Experts caution against universally applying the hypothesis, noting that a beauty market boom doesn't automatically signal financial stress.
