Chhattisgarh Tiger Reserve Treats 3,500 Wounded Trees With Bandages and Grafts

Times of India · environment

An unusual rescue operation is underway in Chhattisgarh's Udanti-Sitanadi Tiger Reserve to save over 3,500 trees deliberately damaged by girdling. Conservationists and forest staff are applying liquid medicines, moisture-retaining materials, and bridge grafts to treat the injured sal, bija, and tendu trees. This effort aims to revive trees weakened by bark removal, a method used to gradually kill them and clear land. Some trees show signs of natural healing, offering hope for recovery with timely intervention and protection.
