Nepal Rains Swell Gandak River, Flooding NH-727

Heavy rainfall in Nepal's terai region has caused the Gandak river to swell, leading to significant flooding in West Champaran, India. The Valmikinagar Gandak Barrage has released up to 5.43 lakh cusecs of water, submerging parts of National Highway 727 with nearly two feet of water. This has disrupted the inter-state connection between Bettiah and Gorakhpur. Floodwaters have also entered over a dozen localities in Bettiah city and affected government institutions like the SP office and several schools.

नेपाल के तराई क्षेत्र में भारी बारिश के कारण गंडक नदी उफान पर है, जिससे भारत के पश्चिम चंपारण में भारी बाढ़ आ गई है। वाल्मीकिनगर गंडक बैराज से 5.43 लाख क्यूसेक तक पानी छोड़ा गया है, जिससे राष्ट्रीय राजमार्ग 727 के हिस्से लगभग दो फीट पानी में डूब गए हैं। इससे बेतिया और गोरखपुर के बीच अंतर-राज्यीय संपर्क बाधित हो गया है। बाढ़ का पानी बेतिया शहर के एक दर्जन से अधिक इलाकों में भी घुस गया है और एसपी कार्यालय तथा कई स्कूलों जैसे सरकारी संस्थानों को प्रभावित किया है।
