Cursor Reports Up To 5,000 Users Affected By Tampered Claude Code Extension

Coding tool company Cursor reported on Friday that a tampered version of Anthropic's Claude Code extension was available on its marketplace for up to 5,000 users. The malicious extension, active from Thursday morning to afternoon, attempted to collect user information and establish remote access. Cursor removed the compromised extension, blocked its distribution, and temporarily shut down its marketplace as a precaution. The company has since restored the marketplace, confirming that other extensions were not impacted by the incident.
