Six Maharashtra Hamlets Rely on Gujarat for Markets, Facing River Crossings Daily
Times of India · india
Hundreds of residents from six tribal hamlets in Nashik's Surgana taluka regularly undertake a risky river crossing into Gujarat to access markets and usable roads. The hamlets, home to 550 families, are surrounded by the Par river on three sides, with their only link to Maharashtra being a difficult 23km hilly route. During monsoons, this route becomes impassable, cutting off the villages and making emergency access challenging. Residents depend on Gujarat's Sutarpada for essentials, healthcare, and selling produce. A road construction survey has been completed, offering potential relief.
