Supreme Court: State Must Preserve Life During Fasts

The Supreme Court has ruled that the state has a duty to preserve the life of individuals undertaking indefinite fasts, even while respecting their right to dissent. This comes amid activist Sonam Wanghuk's 19-day hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, to which the Union government has remained silent. The Delhi High Court had previously emphasized the preciousness of every citizen's life.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कहा है कि सरकार का फर्ज है कि वह अनिश्चितकालीन अनशन करने वालों की जान बचाए, भले ही वे विरोध का अधिकार रखते हों। यह फैसला एक्टिविस्ट सोनम वांगचुक के जंतर मंतर पर 19 दिन से चल रहे अनशन के बीच आया है, जिस पर केंद्र सरकार चुप है। इससे पहले दिल्ली हाई कोर्ट ने भी हर नागरिक की जान की कीमत पर जोर दिया था।
