Maharashtra will begin issuing Women Farmers Certificates on October 2, under the new Women Farmer’s Empowerment Act 2026. This landmark initiative formally recognises women involved in agriculture and allied activities as farmers, even if they do not own land. The certificates will benefit lakhs of women who are crucial to the agri-food systems, livestock, poultry, and fisheries sectors but are often excluded from the formal definition of a farmer. This move highlights Maharashtra's commitment to addressing the needs of women in agriculture.
