UP Anti-Conversion Law: Allahabad HC Grants Bail To Eight Convicts, Denies Others

The Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench has granted bail to eight individuals convicted in Uttar Pradesh's first major unlawful religious conversion case from 2021. However, bail was denied to eight others, including alleged masterminds Mohd Umar Gautam and Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui. The court noted that all appellants had spent over four years and six months in jail. A distinction was drawn based on the nature of evidence and charges, with those denied bail facing more serious convictions, including conspiracy to wage war.

इलाहाबाद उच्च न्यायालय की लखनऊ पीठ ने 2021 के उत्तर प्रदेश के पहले बड़े अवैध धर्मांतरण मामले में दोषी ठहराए गए आठ लोगों को जमानत दे दी है। हालांकि, कथित मास्टरमाइंड मोहम्मद उमर गौतम और मौलाना कलीम सिद्दीकी सहित आठ अन्य को जमानत देने से इनकार कर दिया गया। अदालत ने कहा कि सभी अपीलकर्ताओं ने चार साल छह महीने से अधिक जेल में बिताए हैं। सबूतों और आरोपों की प्रकृति के आधार पर अंतर किया गया, जिसमें जमानत से इनकार किए गए लोगों पर युद्ध छेड़ने की साजिश सहित अधिक गंभीर आरोप थे।
