The Indian government has amended Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, to recognize E100 fuel for flex-fuel vehicles, alongside E85. This change allows vehicle manufacturers to design cars capable of running on both E85 and pure ethanol (E100). Flex-fuel vehicles are designed to operate on varying blends of petrol and ethanol. The amendment also updates vehicle emission standards and technical terminology, aiming for greater clarity and precision in regulations. This move paves the way for wider adoption of ethanol-based fuels in the automotive sector.

भारत सरकार ने सेंट्रल मोटर व्हीकल्स रूल्स, 1989 में संशोधन करके फ्लेक्स-फ्यूल वाहनों के लिए E85 के साथ E100 ईंधन को मान्यता दी है। इस बदलाव से वाहन निर्माता ऐसी कारें डिजाइन कर सकेंगे जो E85 और शुद्ध इथेनॉल (E100) दोनों पर चल सकें। फ्लेक्स-फ्यूल वाहन पेट्रोल और इथेनॉल के विभिन्न मिश्रणों पर चलने के लिए डिजाइन किए जाते हैं। इस संशोधन में वाहन उत्सर्जन मानकों और तकनीकी शब्दावली को भी अपडेट किया गया है, जिसका उद्देश्य नियमों में अधिक स्पष्टता और सटीकता लाना है। यह कदम ऑटोमोटिव क्षेत्र में इथेनॉल-आधारित ईंधन को व्यापक रूप से अपनाने का मार्ग प्रशस्त करता है।
