Madras HC Orders Ramanathapuram Collector To Halt Illegal Quarrying
Times of India · environment
The Madras High Court has directed the Ramanathapuram district collector to stop illegal quarrying operations and take action against those involved. This directive came after a public interest litigation sought the closure of unauthorized sand and soil quarries around the Vaigai riverbed. The court also ordered action against a police inspector accused of colluding with quarry operators. The court emphasized that despite claims of stopping illegal quarrying, the government's own report indicated ongoing operations for five years without adequate action.
