Supreme Court Sees Tense Exchange Over 'Naxal' Remark

A heated exchange erupted in the Supreme Court on Tuesday when Solicitor General Tushar Mehta used the term "Naxalites" in a legal argument. Senior advocate S Muralidhar took strong objection, calling the remark unnecessary and demanding its withdrawal. Mehta refused, stating he stood by his comment. The court was hearing a challenge to a recent legal amendment making not singing Vande Mataram a penal offence. The bench has sought the Centre's response to the petition.

मंगलवार को सुप्रीम कोर्ट में गरमागरम बहस हुई। सॉलिसिटर जनरल तुषार मेहता ने एक कानूनी दलील में "नक्सलियों" शब्द का इस्तेमाल किया। वरिष्ठ वकील एस. मुरलीधर ने इस पर कड़ी आपत्ति जताई और कहा कि यह टिप्पणी अनावश्यक है और इसे वापस लिया जाना चाहिए। मेहता ने इनकार कर दिया। कोर्ट वंदे मातरम न गाने को दंडनीय अपराध बनाने वाले नए कानून को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका पर सुनवाई कर रहा था। बेंच ने केंद्र से जवाब मांगा है।
