Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has urged a reevaluation of societal responses to children involved with substance abuse, classifying it as a child protection crisis rather than solely a health or crime issue. He highlighted that drug use disrupts education, strains family ties, and harms children's physical and mental well-being, making them vulnerable to exploitation. Surya Kant stressed that rehabilitation requires comprehensive support including counselling, education, and safe environments, advocating for stringent action against traffickers. He emphasized replacing stigma with dignity and providing second chances for affected children.

भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश सूर्यकांत ने बच्चों के नशीली दवाओं के सेवन से जुड़े सामाजिक प्रतिक्रियाओं के पुनर्मूल्यांकन का आग्रह किया है, इसे केवल स्वास्थ्य या अपराध का मुद्दा मानने के बजाय बाल संरक्षण संकट के रूप में वर्गीकृत किया है। उन्होंने इस बात पर प्रकाश डाला कि नशीली दवाओं का सेवन शिक्षा को बाधित करता है, पारिवारिक संबंधों को तनावग्रस्त करता है, और बच्चों के शारीरिक और मानसिक कल्याण को नुकसान पहुँचाता है, जिससे वे शोषण के प्रति संवेदनशील हो जाते हैं। सूर्यकांत ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि पुनर्वास के लिए परामर्श, शिक्षा और सुरक्षित वातावरण सहित व्यापक समर्थन की आवश्यकता है, और तस्करों के खिलाफ कड़ी कार्रवाई की वकालत की।
