UPI Transactions Surge 27% to 145 Billion in H1 FY27 Amid New MDR Rollout

UPI processed approximately 145 billion transactions in the first half of FY27, marking a 27% increase from the previous year. The total value of these transactions also grew by 20% to Rs 177 lakh crore. Despite a marginal dip in September's daily volume and value compared to August, average daily transactions saw an increase. This growth occurs as a new Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) regime for high-value UPI payments above Rs 2,000 is set to be implemented from October 15, aiming to create a sustainable revenue model.

FY27 की पहली छमाही में UPI ने करीब 145 बिलियन ट्रांज़ैक्शन प्रोसेस किए, जो पिछले साल के मुकाबले 27% ज़्यादा है। इन ट्रांज़ैक्शन का कुल मूल्य भी 20% बढ़कर 177 लाख करोड़ रुपये हो गया। सितंबर में दैनिक वॉल्यूम और मूल्य में अगस्त की तुलना में मामूली गिरावट के बावजूद, औसत दैनिक ट्रांज़ैक्शन में वृद्धि देखी गई। यह वृद्धि ऐसे समय में हुई है जब 15 अक्टूबर से 2,000 रुपये से ज़्यादा के हाई-वैल्यू UPI पेमेंट्स के लिए एक नया मर्चेंट डिस्काउंट रेट (MDR) लागू होने वाला है, जिसका उद्देश्य एक टिकाऊ रेवेन्यू मॉडल बनाना है।
