India Raises Windfall Tax on Petrol Exports Fivefold

Aaj Tak · business

The Indian government has significantly increased the windfall tax on petrol exports, raising it from 50 paise to 2.50 rupees per litre, a fivefold jump. Concurrently, the tax on diesel exports has been substantially reduced from 16 rupees to 8.50 rupees per litre. These new rates, effective, apply only to exports and will not directly impact domestic petrol and diesel prices. However, fluctuations in international oil prices and refining costs could influence retail prices in the future.
