Hindustan Times · entertainment
Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the Kwik-E-Mart operator from The Simpsons, has returned to the show after a nine-year absence. He was voiced by Indian American actors Sunil Malhotra and Janina Gavankar in the recent Halloween-themed episode. The character, originally voiced by Hank Azaria for over two decades, faced criticism for perpetuating harmful stereotypes of South Asians. Azaria stepped away from the role in 2018 following a documentary that highlighted the character's problematic portrayal.
