Sugarcane Farmers Block Highways in Karnataka Demanding Better Prices

Sugarcane farmers in north Karnataka blocked national highways on Tuesday, demanding higher cane prices and the implementation of the Swaminathan Commission's recommendations. Protests were reported in several districts, disrupting traffic on major routes like the Pune-Bengaluru highway. The Centre has proposed forming a joint committee and urged the state government to introduce a state-advised price (SAP). Union minister Pralhad Joshi stated that discussions were constructive and assured farmers of good news soon, appealing for an end to the agitation.

उत्तर कर्नाटक के गन्ना किसानों ने मंगलवार को राष्ट्रीय राजमार्गों को जाम कर दिया। वे गन्ने की ऊंची कीमत और स्वामीनाथन आयोग की सिफारिशों को लागू करने की मांग कर रहे थे। पुणे-बेंगलुरु राजमार्ग जैसे प्रमुख मार्गों पर कई जिलों में विरोध प्रदर्शन की सूचना मिली, जिससे यातायात बाधित हुआ। केंद्र ने एक संयुक्त समिति बनाने का प्रस्ताव दिया है और राज्य सरकार से राज्य-सलाहकार मूल्य (SAP) शुरू करने का आग्रह किया है। केंद्रीय मंत्री प्रह्लाद जोशी ने कहा कि चर्चाएं रचनात्मक थीं और उन्होंने जल्द ही किसानों को अच्छी खबर देने का आश्वासन दिया, साथ ही आंदोलन समाप्त करने की अपील की।
