Kolkata Municipal Corporation Ward Count: High Court to Decide Between 144 and 209

The Calcutta High Court will deliver a verdict regarding the number of wards in the KMC. The number of wards was increased from 144 to 209, a decision challenged by the CPI(M) party. The party alleges that the delimitation process for the new wards did not follow proper procedures, including public consultation and consideration of population and geographical factors. The court had previously instructed the State Election Commission not to announce KMC election schedules until its decision.

कलकत्ता हाई कोर्ट केएमसी में वार्डों की संख्या को लेकर फैसला सुनाएगा। वार्डों की संख्या 144 से बढ़ाकर 209 कर दी गई थी, जिस फैसले को सीपीआई (एम) पार्टी ने चुनौती दी है। पार्टी का आरोप है कि नए वार्डों के परिसीमन की प्रक्रिया में उचित प्रक्रियाओं का पालन नहीं किया गया, जिसमें सार्वजनिक परामर्श और जनसंख्या व भौगोलिक कारकों पर विचार शामिल है। अदालत ने पहले राज्य चुनाव आयोग को निर्देश दिया था कि वह अपने फैसले तक केएमसी चुनाव की समय-सारणी की घोषणा न करे।
