Government Allows Taxing UPI Payments

The Indian government has introduced an amendment to the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007, allowing for the taxation of UPI payments. This move, included in the Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026, provides legal grounds to tax a payment system that has been actively promoted for the past decade.

भारतीय सरकार ने पेमेंट एंड सेटलमेंट सिस्टम्स एक्ट, 2007 में एक संशोधन पेश किया है। इससे अब UPI पेमेंट्स पर टैक्स लगाया जा सकेगा। टैक्सेशन एंड अदर लॉज (अमेंडमेंट) बिल, 2026 में शामिल इस कदम से पिछले एक दशक से सक्रिय रूप से बढ़ावा दिए जा रहे पेमेंट सिस्टम को टैक्स करने का कानूनी आधार मिल गया है।
