Ex-Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger Warns AI Chip Design Won't Solve Shortages

Former Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has cautioned major tech companies like OpenAI, Amazon, and Microsoft that designing custom AI chips will not resolve the industry's most significant physical shortages. While AI accelerates chip design, Gelsinger highlighted that manufacturing time, memory bandwidth, advanced packaging, and energy capacity remain critical bottlenecks. He noted that specialized AI chips may consolidate around fewer architectures. Gelsinger also pointed out that while AI can automate much of chip design, analog aspects remain difficult for current AI tools to handle, requiring conservative design or manual engineering.

पूर्व इंटेल सीईओ पैट गेलसिंगर ने OpenAI, Amazon और Microsoft जैसी बड़ी टेक कंपनियों को आगाह किया है कि कस्टम AI चिप डिजाइन करने से इंडस्ट्री की सबसे बड़ी फिजिकल कमी दूर नहीं होगी। उन्होंने कहा कि AI चिप डिजाइन को तेज कर सकता है, लेकिन मैन्युफैक्चरिंग का समय, मेमोरी बैंडविड्थ, एडवांस्ड पैकेजिंग और ऊर्जा क्षमता अभी भी महत्वपूर्ण बाधाएं बनी हुई हैं। गेलसिंगर ने बताया कि विशेष AI चिप्स कुछ ही आर्किटेक्चर के आसपास केंद्रित हो सकते हैं। गेलसिंगर ने यह भी कहा कि AI चिप डिजाइन के कई हिस्सों को ऑटोमेट कर सकता है, लेकिन एनालॉग पहलू अभी भी वर्तमान AI टूल्स के लिए संभालना मुश्किल है, जिसके लिए कंजरवेटिव डिजाइन या मैन्युअल इंजीनियरिंग की आवश्यकता होती है।
