After a ten-year legal battle, homeowners in Laredo, Texas's La Bota Ranch have successfully gained control of their community's common areas. This includes ownership of the neighbourhood's park, streets, ponds, and guardhouse. The transfer was finalised on August 20, 2026, following extensive litigation and settlement negotiations. Residents had organised against developer control and rising fees, which saw annual dues increase significantly between 2015 and 2016. A jury ruled in favour of homeowners in March 2022, finding developers breached their fiduciary duties, leading to the eventual handover.
