Kerala HC: Supreme Court Deadline For Temple Elephant Registration Cannot Be Extended

The Kerala High Court has ruled that neither the High Court nor the State government can extend the timeline set by the Supreme Court for temples and devaswoms to register with the District Committee. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas stated that without Supreme Court approval, extending the registration deadline or considering delayed applications is improper. The court was hearing a temple's plea for registration and permission for an elephant procession. The Supreme Court had originally mandated registration within six weeks from August 18, 2015.

केरल हाई कोर्ट ने फैसला सुनाया है कि न तो हाई कोर्ट और न ही राज्य सरकार मंदिरों और देवस्वमों के लिए जिला समिति के साथ पंजीकरण की सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा तय की गई समय सीमा को बढ़ा सकती है। जस्टिस बेचु कुरियन थॉमस ने कहा कि सुप्रीम कोर्ट की मंजूरी के बिना, पंजीकरण की समय सीमा बढ़ाना या देर से आए आवेदनों पर विचार करना अनुचित है। कोर्ट एक मंदिर की पंजीकरण और हाथी जुलूस की अनुमति के लिए याचिका पर सुनवाई कर रहा था। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मूल रूप से 18 अगस्त, 2015 से छह सप्ताह के भीतर पंजीकरण अनिवार्य किया था।
