New Tiger Cat Species Found In Bolivia

A new species of tiger cat, named Leopardus tilcayo, has been identified in Bolivia's Yungas cloud forests. This marks the first formal naming of a new living feline species in over a century. The small cat, weighing about 1.4kg, was distinguished through DNA analysis of 38 cats, revealing five genetically distinct tiger cat species. Researchers were initially puzzled by its unique characteristics compared to Brazilian tiger cats, prompting further genetic investigation.

बोलीविया के युंगास क्लाउड फॉरेस्ट में लेपर्डस टिल्कायोन (Leopardus tilcayo) नाम की एक नई प्रजाति की टाइगर कैट मिली है। 100 साल से भी ज़्यादा समय बाद किसी नई बिल्ली प्रजाति का यह पहला आधिकारिक नामकरण है। करीब 1.4 किलो की यह छोटी बिल्ली, 38 बिल्लियों के DNA विश्लेषण से पहचानी गई, जिससे पाँच अलग-अलग टाइगर कैट प्रजातियाँ सामने आईं।
