Employees issued counterfeit National Savings Certificates and term deposit advice slips to depositors who believed they were opening legitimate accounts. The depositors lost approximately Rs 36.4 lakh. The Department of Posts initially refused compensation, arguing the depositors dealt with transferred employees, not authorised counter staff. However, the court considered that the forged documents were issued by postal employees, leading to the depositors' financial losses.
