Automakers Seek Higher Fuel Vapour Emission Limit Under BS VII

Mint · automobile

Indian automakers are pushing for relaxed fuel vapour emission standards under the upcoming BS VII regulations. They cite the widespread use of E20 petrol, which has a higher ethanol blend than fuels used in Europe. Experts acknowledge that higher ethanol blends can increase fuel volatility and vapour emissions, contributing to air pollution. The government has proposed a 1.5 gram per test limit, but the industry is advocating for a higher 2-gram limit to account for India's specific fuel conditions.
