Veteran fight director Pappu Verma has recounted the 1982 accident on the sets of 'Coolie' that nearly killed Amitabh Bachchan. Verma revealed that a stuntman was injured earlier that day before Puneet Issar's punch struck Bachchan. The team concealed the true details of the incident, fabricating a story about Bachchan falling over a table. This was done to protect Issar's acting career, as he was making his debut and had injured a major superstar.

दिग्गज फाइट डायरेक्टर पप्पू वर्मा ने 'कूली' के सेट पर 1982 में हुए उस हादसे को याद किया है, जिसमें अमिताभ बच्चन बाल-बाल बच गए थे। वर्मा ने बताया कि पुनीत इस्सर के पंच से बच्चन को चोट लगने से पहले उसी दिन एक स्टंटमैन घायल हो गया था। टीम ने इस घटना की असली कहानी छिपाई और बच्चन के टेबल से गिरने की झूठी कहानी गढ़ी। ऐसा इसलिए किया गया ताकि इस्सर के एक्टिंग करियर को बचाया जा सके, क्योंकि वह डेब्यू कर रहे थे और उन्होंने एक बड़े सुपरस्टार को चोट पहुंचाई थी।
